We have the Book Bundle coming up in October! FWG members can fill out their application in the form below and have their book considered to be included in an entire, wonderful selection of furry works! Works must be written by guild members and self-published.

There’s been a few storms during this last week of April… but May is storming in the loudest and the proudest! Welcome to May, everyfur! It has been a thrilling month for the FWG, and we continue to stay strong and show the world our blazing creativity! Make sure to take the time to celebrate your creative accomplishments, and treat yourself well! Keep on writing, editing, reading… whatever helps you push your creativity forward! Make sure you support your fellow furry creatives, too!

The next big thing is guild officer elections. We have one contested seat for Guild Markets Manager! That means we’ll have a guild-wide vote in mid-May. Until May 14, candidates will answer questions on the guild’s Discord server, in the “Guild Officer Elections” channel. If you have a question but want to remain anonymous, you can email it to furwritersguild [at] gmail.com and I will post it for you. On May 16, voting will start via online ballot, which I’ll announce here closer to the time. We will most likely make one of our rare guild-wide emails to alert members when voting is live, so this is a very good time to update your email address if you need to.

Lastly, here’s your huge reminder that the voting for the Cóyotl Awards closes soon! Get your votes in while you still can!

The rain pours, and behind the clouds is the spring sun! Welcome to the month of April, all you lovely writers and authors out there! My name is Flash Kitterson, and I’ll be taking over as president for the time being! I’m a black furry author that’s been with the community forever now! Gabe decided to step down to focus more on her company, Doppelfoxx Publishing. It’s a new Pub House that furry authors can publish with. You can message her for more details! We appreciate Gabe for helping as President with the short amount of time she had, and wishing her the best on her future endeavors!

April is also election month! Guild members can shoot their shots at positions within the Officer crew. To go after a certain position, you can make a post on the Discord in the “guild officer elections” channel. The deadline is the end of April to announce candidacy.

Don’t forget that the Cóyotl Awards for 2025 are still open for nominations! They close next week on April 5th.

Of The Wilds

Today we lost one of our own after a serious illness. Of The Wilds was a brilliant writer who especially liked to write about dragons, probably best known for his serialized novel The Dragon in the Dungeon.

The loss of anyone in our community is painful, especially someone as young as Wilds. I only met him once in passing, when he leaned over his partner Resolute’s chair and waved at me via Zoom. I remember his smile and the happy mischief in his expression. While he was a quiet person, he left a positive impression on everyone he met.

His work lives on, a permanent window into his personality, humor, imagination, and skill as a writer. We will all miss him and grieve his loss, but we can also celebrate him by reading his stories. Like the last note of music that never quite fades, Of The Wilds will remain forever in his words.

Joel “Zarpaulus” Kreissman’s novel The Pride of Parahumans has been accepted by Thurston Howl Publications.

In short fiction news, several members have stories in Fred Patten’s upcoming anthology Gods With Fur, including Alice “Huskyteer” Dryden, Kyell Gold, Mary E. Lowd, Watts Martin, and Televassi. Rechan sold the flash fiction piece “Letter from the Front Lines” to Bards and Sages Quarterly.

Huskyteer won the Ursa Major for her short story “The Analogue Cat.”

The third volume of the charity anthology Wolf Warriors is seeking wolf-themed fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction through June 15, 2016.

Fred Patten’s next anthology for FurPlanet, The Dogs of War, is looking for original furry military-themed stories “preferably of 4,000 to 20,000 words.” The emphasis should be on military actions, not politics; Fred notes that despite the title, he’s looking for all kinds of anthropomorphic animals, not just dogs. Payment: ½¢ per word, on publication. Deadline: October 1, 2016. (Read the submission call.)

ROAR 8, FurPlanet’s annual general audience anthology, will again be edited by Mary E. Lowd. Next year’s theme is “Paradise.” It will be open for submissions from September 1, 2016 through February 1, 2017. (Read the submission call.)

Laura “Munchkin” Lewis’s charity poetry anthology, Civilized Beasts, is accepting submissions for a 2016 volume.

Lowd’s “High School Dogs” (a prequel to her novella In a Dog’s World) is now online at Deep Sky Anchor, and issue 2 of A Glimpse of Anthropomorphic Literature is now available, featuring stories and book reviews from several FWG members.

Book news: Fred Patten’s latest anthology, Cats and More Cats, was released at Further Confusion and will soon be available for order from FurPlanet‘s website. The first furry anthology from Jaffa Books, Claw the Way to Victory, was released at Anthro New England and is edited by Sean Rivercritic of AnthroAquatic. Bill Kieffer’s novella The Goat: Building a Perfect Victim is forthcoming from Red Ferret Press.

Short stories: You can read Madison “Makyo” Scott-Clary’s story “Milkshakes and Foxes” in the Further Confusion conbook, and Mary E. Lowd’s flash fiction piece “Dealership with the Devil” is online at Theme of Absence. (Check out their interview with her as well.)

Rechan has been accepted as an Associate Editor at EMP Publishing, for their online horror magazine, and in crowdfunding news, Joel Kreissman has begun a Kickstarter campaign to fund illustrations for his novel.

New Members

Member News

In book release news, the furry poetry anthology Civilized Beasts is now available in print and ebook formats, including poems from Renee Carter Hall, Huskyteer, and many more. The erotic anthology Will of the Alpha 3, edited by Rechan, has also been released, featuring fiction from Laura “Munchkin” Lewis, Ocean Tigrox, Dark End, and others. (It’s also available as an ebook from Bad Dog Books.) Renee Carter Hall’s holiday story collection Wishing Season has been released in paperback for the first time, and Phil Geusz’s novella Cheetah’s Win (first published in ROAR) is now available as a standalone ebook. Finally, Searska GreyRaven’s story “Reynard and the Dragon” (also first published in ROAR) has been reprinted in the mainstream anthology Swords of Darkness, available now for pre-order.

In periodicals, the new magazine A Glimpse of Anthropomorphic Literature made its debut last month, with the first issue available to read free until February 15, featuring stories from Ocean Tigrox and Amy Fontaine as well as reviews of several furry books. Mary E. Lowd has started a new ezine, Deep Sky Anchor, to feature her short fiction, and Dark End has now completed his murder mystery “The Missing Motive,” with the full story now up on FurAffinity.

In nonfiction, associate member Madison “Makyo” Scott-Clary’s article “On Postfurry” was featured in an episode of Culturally F’d.

Finally, in other member news, Fred Patten celebrated his 75th birthday last month. If you missed Phil Geusz’s interview with him, you can check it out here.

Upcoming deadlines: ROAR #7 closes on February 1, and the second issue of A Glimpse of Anthropomorphic Literature is reading through February 15. (More info on both on our Paying Markets page.)

For conbooks, Fur the ‘More is seeking “Cubicle Jungle” submissions until February 15 (maximum 2000 words, full info here).
